Characteristics of Acne Types
Inflamed Acne
Characteristics:
- 1. redness/ blotchiness
- 2. hot to the touch
- 3. pimples/ pustules/ whiteheads/ blackheads
- 4. possibility of cysts
- 5. excessive oil
- 6. sensitive skin and reactive to products
Noninflamed Acne
Characteristics:
- 1. dull sluggish appearance
- 2. bumps/blackheads/blemish
- 3. some pimples/ pustules but not as many as inflamed acne
- 4. excessive oil
- 5. tissue congestion
- 6. skin generally not sensitive or reactive
Acne & Hyperpigmentation
Characteristics:
- 1. dull sluggish appearance
- 2. Hyperpigmentation (dark spots) where acne has occurred
- 3. Inflamed, noninflamed acne or both
- 4. excessive oil
- 5. tissue congestion
- 6. skin generally not sensitive or reactive
Rosacea
Characteristics:
- 1. facial flushing
- 2. facial redness
- 3. facial papules
- 4. facial pustules
- 5. face gets red after drinking alcohol or hot drinks
- 6. face gets red and/or bumpy after eating spicy foods.
- 7. face gets red and/or bumpy with hot / cold temps or exercise.
Back Acne
Characteristics:
- 1. dull sluggish appearance
- 2. acne - inflamed or noninflamed or both
- 3. there are usually dark spots where acne was.
